Pattymelts

Linda Nelson

We had pattymelts for dinner and this is how I "built" them.

I started by caramelizing a sliced sweet onion. My secret is a pinch of brown sugar in with the butter in the pan. Set the onions aside.

Four slices of caraway bread, buttered on both sides. Grill then set aside.

I made the patties by putting them into a zip-bag and flattening. Cook until done, adding Swiss cheese near the end.

Layer the sandwich, add the onions, mustard, horseradish. These were almost too much.

True Blue

Linda Nelson

Today I have been working on a Civil War Sampler quilt. 56 blocks in Civil War reproduction fabrics.

Each block is presented with a little information about the Civil War. Yankees were blue, but only those who swore their loyalty to the Union were True Blue. Mary Lincoln's sister was married to a confederate general, when he was killed, she joined Mary Lincoln, living at the White House. They weren't considered True Blue.

Two similar blocks in the pictures below represent Manassas Junction or the Battle of Bull Run.

For dinner it's hamburgers, patty-melts. Here are the lean patties formed in a zip-loc bag.

Blog with Frogs

Linda Nelson

Very appropriately for this wet spring we are having, I finally finished the frog and bug quilt. It's named Across the Pond and I did it as a block of the month from Fons and Porter. There is a little turtle diving in the bottom corner. This little wall piece took me a year, on and off.
