Easter Egg Suprise!

Linda Nelson

Hank peeled one of the eggs that I had dyed with straight food coloring, no water or vinegar, and found that a lot of color had permeated the shell. So I had fun this morning peeling the rest for deviled eggs.

The neon green ones weren't so appetizing.

I always have eggs with a little dye inside but these were intense.

ZipLoc is my friend.

No Mess Easter Eggs

Linda Nelson

I needed a few colored eggs for Easter dinner tomorrow.

I saw this idea on line. You squirt straight food coloring into a baggie and drop in the egg.

Work the egg around in the bag from the outside and pull it out with a square of paper towel. Wipe dry

That was quick and no mess to clean up.

Peeps (part deaux)

Linda Nelson

It really worked. I should have spread a thin coat of oil on the prep sheet. I didn't  wait four hours partly because there was a big old bumblebee in my kitchen.

You can buy candy eyeballs at Joann,  also the cookie cutter.

Lookin' atcha !

Peeps (part one)

Linda Nelson

Martha Stewart makes her own marshmallows and peeps, so it can't be that hard, right?

First you soften two packets of gelatine in .5 cups cold water. Boil .5 cup corn syrup, .5 cup water and 2 cups sugar to 245 degrees. Slowly combine the hot syrup and gelatine in your stand mixer and whip until it's creamy and makes soft peaks. I added vanilla and yellow food color.

Now things get sticky, you pour the soft marshmallow blob onto a parchment lined baking sheet.. If it sticks to the wooden spoon, wipe it off with your finger.

So then you sprinkle it with more sugar and leave it out on the counter for four hours before cutting it into shapes. To be continued in four hours. Hope a fly doesn't land in it!
